Elba ist mit der Fähre von Piombino Marittimo aus erreichbar. Es gibt dort zwei Fährgesellschaften (Toremar e Moby) die über komfortable Fährschiffe verfügen und die die Insel mehrmals täglich anfahren. In einer Stunde erreicht man die Insel Elba (zwischen Kontinent und Insel sind es 10 Km.) und seine Häfen von Portoferraio (der Haupthafen) und Rio Marina.

Als Alternative gibt es auch eine Schnellverbindung mit dem Tragflächenboot, nur für Passagiere ohne Auto, die Portoferraio nach nur 35 Minuten erreicht.
